MARS HILL - Roger Merlin Crawford Sr. died Thursday, July 21, 2022, at The Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle. Roger was born July 8, 1939, in Presque Isle, Maine, son to the late Elden and Opal (Niles) Crawford.
He was raised at the Robinson Campground, and joined the United States Air Force after graduating from high school. After being honorably discharged in 1963, Roger worked for many Aroostook County farmers, and then worked for more than twenty years at the Coca Cola Company. He and his late wife, Linda (Curtis), were married for more than 55 years.
Roger is survived by their five children, Lori Corey and husband, Steve, Julie Crawford, Roger Crawford Jr. and wife, Penny, Wendi Ashby, and Christopher Crawford; his grandchildren, Luke and wife, Brittany, Randell, Kristen, Jenny, Sage, Connor, Calleigh, Christopher Jr., and Tripp; and great-grandchildren, Riley, Morgan, and Delaney. He was predeceased by his four siblings, Marlene, Roy, Bob, and Marilyn; and son-in-law, Jay Ashby.
If you ever met Roger, he probably had at least one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren in tow. Whether it was for a drive around the mountain, a walk around Mars Hill, or a talk on the swing, our grampy was our best friend. He was the type of man that would drop everything to help his family. He was our supporter, always cheering us on, from kindergarten up through high school and college graduations, and at all of our sports games. He taught most of us how to drive, hunt, fish, and balance a checkbook. He was the core of our family and life will surely never be the same.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Kings Grove Cemetery, Mars Hill, with the Rev. George McLaughlin officiating. In lieu of flowers or other donations, donations may be made to The Aroostook House of Comfort, to help support and continue the compassionate care they provide to the community, P.O. Box 867, Presque Isle, ME 04769. Arrangements in care of Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill, ME 04758. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at: duncan-graves.com.
