Educator/Civic leader. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he graduated from Central Connecticut State Teacher's College in the spring of 1952. That fall he began a 35-year career in the Southington school system as an Industrial Arts teacher at Southington High School. In 1958 he was appointed an assistant principal at SHS. He was named principal in October 1971, succeeding Lawrence W. D'Angelo, who had died just before the start of the school year. He retired due to health concerns in 1987 and the following year underwent a heart transplant at Hartford Hospital. At the time of his death he was one of the world's longest-surviving heart transplant patients. In addition to his work in the school system he was active for many years with American Legion Kiltonic Post 72. A 1944 graduate of Lewis High School, he was among a group of veterans who in 2000 were bestowed their high school diplomas because their service in the military prevented them from graduating with their class.
