Dwight I. "Chub" Reed

MEXICO -- Dwight I. "Chub" Reed, 74, died on August 15, 2004 at his home on Backkingdom Road, Mexico.

He was born in Boothbay on May 23, 1930, a son of Charles Parker and Delia Mae (Kelley) Reed. He attended Boothbay Harbor Schools.

Dwight had been employed for over 40 years at Boise Cascade Paper Company in Rumford until retirement as a 1st Class Millwright in the late 1980's.

He was a member of the Boise Cascade Paper Company 25 & 40 Year Club. He served as a Boy Scout Leader for troops at the Mexico Congregational Church and at St. Theresa Church for several years. He loved his family and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting. He was also an avid gun and knife collector.

Dwight was married in Rumford on Sept. 15, 1948 to the former Natalie Frances Avery, who survives of Mexico.

Other survivors include three daughters, Alayne F. Reed of Mexico, Julie A. Reed of Mexico, Kelley J. Arsenault and companion, Rene Lee of South Rumford; four sons, Thomas K. Reed and wife, Barbara of Freeport, C. Wesley Reed and wife, Martha of Vinalhaven, Charles L. Reed and wife, Pamela of Mechanic Falls, and Herbert "Skip" Reed of Mexico; 12 grandchildren, Mary Jo Reed of Standish, Thomas K. Reed II of Freeport, Natalie C. Reed of Vinalhaven, Charles P. Reed, III and wife, Kari of Bridgton, Daniel A. Reed of Waltham, MA, Christopher D. Reed, U.S.A.F., Sarah M. Reed, James M. Reed, and Elizabeth A. Reed, all of Mechanic Falls, Michael C. Arsenault, Casey Jo Arsenault, and Tampsa M. Gallant, all of South Rumford; a step-grandson, Kyle J. Lee of South Rumford; two great granddaughters, Savannah M. Gallant of South Rumford, and Hannah V. Reed of Bridgton; and a brother, F. Robie Reed of Boothbay Harbor

He was predeceased by a brother, Charles P. Reed II.

Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of His Life 1 PM Saturday, August 21, 2004 at the Mexico Congregational Church, Mexico, with Rev. Virginia Snapp-Cunningham officiating.

Interment at the Demeritt Cemetery, West Peru. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Mexico Congregational Church or the Food Cupboard at the church, Main Street, Mexico, ME 04257 in his memory.
