V.R. Stid was born Jan. 13, 1829 near Canandaigua, N.Y. and passed peacefully away Feb. 15, 1907.

He removed to Michigan with his parents when about 13 years of age, where he has since resided.

When 18 years of age he was united in marriage to Laura Clark of Leoni, MI, who passed away 3 years later, leaving one infant daughter.

In 1851 he was united in marriage to Laura Moorman, with whom he lived 53 years, she having preceded him to the spirit world 2 years and 11 months ago, since which time he has made his home with his children. To this union were born eleven children, 2 having died infancy.

Those surviving him are as follows;
Mrs. Olive Conner, Gladwin;
Mrs. Ellen Briggs, Bunkerhill;
William H. Aurelius;
Sylvanus A. Vevay;
James A. Mason;
Arthur E. Grand Rapids;
Frank, Vevay;
Mrs. Alice Smith, Jackson;
Mrs. Ida Marquedant, Leslie,
George H. Vevay.

There remains also 2 sisters Mrs. Emily French of Carson, and Mrs. Sarah Wescott of Fife Lake; also 29 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren to mourn their loss.

In July 1903 he professed faith in Christ, in which faith he has since live.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Monday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. J.H. Stewart, with interment in Maple Grove Cemetery.
