A memorial service for James M. "Jim" Lockridge, 78, Tyler, will be Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will be in Newburg Cemetery in Comanche County under direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
James M. "Jim" Lockridge went to the great hunting camp on July 24, 2013, in Tyler. He was born in Pettit to Homer Hubbard and Susie Lee Willis Lockridge on Oct. 29, 1934. As a child of two teachers, education was very important to him; that is why he was a Fighting Texas Aggie, Class of '56.
He will be remembered for being a husband, father, Pop-Pop, mentor, bird hunter, business man, engineer, friend, beer drinker, storyteller, crossword puzzle fanatic, philanthropist (as long as it was kept anonymous), humorist and noted whiskey connoisseur (as long as it was Jack Daniels). He was lovingly referred to as "Jimmy," "Pop-Pop" and "birdlegs" by his family and friends.
Jim worked in many positions but is mostly remembered as Smith County engineer and the owner of L&L Asphalt Corp. for the past 34 years. He was known to be a man of his word and completed many projects with a handshake rather than a contract. L&L was not just his business, but also his family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Sue Lockridge. He is survived his wife of 57 years, Borgia Lockridge, of Tyler; daughter, Jeri Yelverton and her husband Tim; son, David Lockridge and his wife Heidi; grandchildren, Ryan Nash and wife Sara, Mason Nash and his fiancée Laura, Mack Lockridge and Emilee Lockridge, all of Tyler; brother, Scott Lockridge and wife Carolyn, of Lumberton; sister Anita Odendahl and husband Tom, of Fallbrook, Calif.; and by several nieces and nephews.
His stories will be long remembered along with the joy and happiness he had in sharing them.
Pallbearers will be his grandson and the sons of his best friends, Phillip Matthews, Mike Williams, Darryl Flatt and Scot Moore.
Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of L&L Asphalt Corp. and his Sand Flat Runnin' Buddies.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Newburg Cemetery Association, c/o Glenda Levisay, president, 307 Woodlawn Drive, Comanche, 76442; or a charity of your choice .
