Age 72 of Owosso passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at her home.

A memorial Mass will be held 10am Friday, September 20, 2013 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Michael O'Brien officiating. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 8pm with a rosary prayed at 7pm.

Janis was born June 12, 1941 in Owosso, the daughter of Frank and Francis (nee Hufnagel) Bishop.

She graduated from Owosso High School, class of 1959 and earned an Associates degree from Lansing Business School.

Janis was a gifted Artist and enjoyed painting scenic water color portraits. She was a member of the Owosso Arts Council and volunteered teaching all ages to paint at area schools and Pleasant View. Janis will be remembered by her loving family as a passionate, loving and giving person with a "unique" sense of humor.

She married Kenneth Kazen in St. Paul Catholic Church in Owosso on August 26, 1961.

Janis is survived by her husband of 52 years; daughter Kristin (Patrick) Gillespie; son Joseph Kazen; grandchildren Nicholas and Madelyn; siblings Maureen (Richard) Gilna, Fred (Lyn) Bishop, Jim (Stella) Bishop; nieces and nephews Michele (Erwin) Lenamen, Cheryl (Christopher) Lozen, Christine Gilna, Lisa (Brett) Lorius, Tim Bishop, Mike (Lisa) Gilna; many other loving family members and friends.

She was predeceased by 2 daughters Vicky Jo Kazen and Kelley Marie Kazen; niece Mary Theresa Gilna and nephew Andrew Bishop.
