Andrew was born Andreas Müller in Obrigheim, Baden, Germany, the son of Georg Leonhard Müller and Eva Margaretha Fiederlein. His mother died 10 March 1837 in Obrigheim, Baden, Germany and his father re-married Anna Maria (Mary Ann) Nohe on 3 August 1837.

He came to the US with his father & step mother in 1854 aboard the "Isaac Webb" which departed from Liverpool, England and arrived in the port of New York on 9 June 1854. They settled in Utica, NY.

Andrew married Anna Maria Pieper in 1858 in Utica, Oneida, NY. She had arrived in Utica some two years earlier having been born in Bleiwasche, Westfalen, Prussia and came to the US with a younger brother, John and about half dozen cousins.

Sometime during the Civil War he moved his family from Utica, NY to Klaasville, Indiana in a covered wagon. It is said that they stopped briefly in Ohio before continuing on to Klassville but I have found no proof of that. They continued on to Norway, Benton Co., Iowa about 1869.

Andrew and Anna Maria were the parents of 10 children. Four of his daughters (and a grandson) died of diphtheria in October 1886. They were: Jane, Caroline, Rosa, & Elizabeth (and Elizabeth's son George A Boddicker). Elizabeth was married to a Richard Bodeker (Boddicker) at that time.

Census records available:
1860 Federal NY, Oneida Co, Utica City 6th ward page 73 family 587.
1870 Federal IA, Benton Co, Eldorado Township page 1 family 2.
1880 Federal IA, Benton Co, Eldorado Township page 5 family 42.
1885 State IA, Benton Co, Eldorado Township page 21 family 119
1895 State IA, Benton Co, Florence Township page 21 family 123
1900 IA, Benton Co, Florence Township Sheet 5 family 100.

Andreas was known as George, George Andrew, G. A., and Andrew Miller.

There is one of his children that I have been unable to locate a burial place for or any of the descendants of and that is:

Andrew Ferdinand MILLER b: 5 JUL 1863 in Utica, Oneida, NY

It is said that this Andrew Ferdinand Miller left home and "was never heard from again". I have tracked him to his Aunt's house (Mrs. Herries) in Chicago. A son of Mrs. Herries, Henry Arthur, believes that he was killed during the unionization of mine / steel workers in the early 1900s in McKees Rock, PA.

After some research, I have found a possible Andrew Miller and added him to Find-A-Grave here. Once I have proof he is the correct one, I will add links on his memorial to his parents and edit this Bio.
