He was the son of Wayne and Bernice (Adams) Elkins.

Gary married Barbara (Irvin) Elkins on September 14, 1969 and she survives him.

Gary served in The United States Army and worked at Wicks Lumber for 33 years. He was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian church.

Gary is survived by his wife Barbara; two grandchildren Stephanie and Garett Elkins of Vincennes; two brothers, Tom Elkins and Kenny and Vicki Elkins, both of Vincennes; seven sisters, Rita and Dave Gladding , Sheila Parker, Barbara Schneider, and Debra and Ed Napier, all of Vincennes, Becky and Kenny Lehman of KY, Leesa and Charles Lyles of Indianapolis, and Linda and Tony Sanneman of Indianapolis; brother and sister in-laws Brenda Conley of Lawerenceville, Il, Brent and Terry Irvin of Effingham Il, and Lisa Talley of Vincennes.

He is preceded in death by his parents; children Shannon and Amy Elkins; two sisters, Pam Case and Donna Patterson; brother Mike Elkins; Mother and Father in-law Harley and Velma "Carey" Irvin.
