Guy E. Martin, 88, Massena, died on Thursday (7/25/2013 at the Highland Nursing Home.

He was born on October 12, 1924 to Guy E. and Jennie Wilfore Martin. He was a graduate of the 1943 class of Massena Central.

He married Veronica (Ronnie) Toth on September 14, 1946 at St. Mary's Church.

He left for service in the Navy just 6 days after graduation. After the war ended, he joined Vaughn Machinery in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. He was then employed by ALCOA in Pittsburgh. Over the course of the following 16 years, He was instrumental in the expansion of ALCOA operations and in the development of several patents for production machinery. He retired as a Senior Engineer in 1983 and returned to Massena once again.

.A local tragedy in 1960 prompted Guy and several other community-minded men to form the Massena Volunteer Emergency Unit (now the Massena Rescue Squad).

Surviving were six children, Mary Anne Layo (Kenneth Jr.) of Massena; Susan J. Martin, Holly Springs, NC; Stephen J. Martin (Eileen) and Nancy B. McCaffrey (Marty), Fuquay-Varina, NC; Barbara J. Martin of Massena and William J. Martin (Carrie) of Swedesboro, NJ and a sister, Doris Clougher, Bayonne, NJ.

Guy was predeceased by his wife, Ronnie, on July 21, 2000 and his brother, Leo C. Martin, who passed away on September 4, 1965.
