Norma was born Nov. 12, 1911, in the Town of Red Cedar, Dunn County, the daughter of Herman and Otillia (Koepnick) Birkholz. Norma grew up on the family farm in the town of Red Cedar.
She married Robert Calhoun on March 24, 1934, in Menomonie. Norma and her husband worked as night watchmen at the Dunn County Hospital for several years. They later moved to Menomonie.
Norma was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid.
Robert died in 1953 and Norma resided the last two years at the Dunn County Health Care Center.
Norma is survived by a daughter, Kay Smith of Visalia, Calif.; a son, Gary (Norma) Calhoun of Milwaukee, and a grandson, Greg Calhoun of Milwaukee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, an infant son, Larry in 1940; a sister, Elsie Beguhn; and five brothers, Clarence, Henry, Walter, Reinhold and Herbert Birkholz.
Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at St. Paul"s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Menomonie with the Rev. Brett Voigt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Stanton-Goodrich-Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
