"See…I told you I was sick!"

Ruth was born in Salt Lake City, Utah (11/10/1931) to Ruth Stewart Manwill and Loran Albert Manwill. Ruth lived most of her life in Salt Lake where she attended and graduated from Granite High School in 1949. She had just celebrated her 64th class reunion. Ruth passed away peacefully on July 3, 2013 from conditions related to lymphoma. At her passing, Ruth was greeted by her parents and her siblings; Erma White (Arnold), Lee Manwill, Stewart Manwill and Beth Lowe (Clarence). She was also met at the veil by her beloved missionary grandson: Elder Richard Levi Ross.

Ruth married her high school sweetheart, Jerold "G" Schmidt (1931 – 2008) on November 30, 1949 and together they raised six very talented (and funny) children: Roxanne Udy (Ivan), Hollie Orton (Terry), Laurie Roberts (Mike), Julie Hogue (Mayo), Teri Kramer (Brad) and Greg Schmidt (Michele Walker). Ruth and Jerold divorced in 1972 but they remained friends for the rest of their lives (sometimes against their wishes).

Ruth married Douglas C. McEwan on October 16th, 1975 (later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple). Doug loved and cared for Ruth for almost 38 years and their love continues today. Doug expanded Ruth's family with the addition of Doug's children, Robert McEwan, Mark McEwan (Pam) and Barbara Undhjem (Brent), and their families who added much love to Ruth's life.

Ruth was a hard worker and had many talents; she particularly loved to travel, sing, cook and sew. Ruth and Doug co-operated Vista Tours and over the years took many large groups on tours of Mexico. Ruth had a great ability during her entire life to make and keep great friends and she loved her friends almost as much as she loved her family.

Ruth was an active member of the LDS church and had a great testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ which she shared often. Ruth and Doug also served as companions on an inner city LDS service mission.

Ruth is survived by her husband, her children, 53 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Jean Manwill, Marilyn Manwill and Harold and Arlene McEwan.

A special thanks to Highland Care Center and their exceptional staff who eased Mom's last days.

In one final bit of irony, mom is now waiting for Doug.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 12th at 11:00 a.m. at the Kenwood 2nd Ward (3080 South 1765 East). A viewing will be held Thursday, July 11th from 6-8 p.m. at Holbrook Mortuary (3251 South 2300 East), and at the church from 10-10:40 a.m. prior to the services. Interment at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery. Messages may be sent to the family at: www.HolbrookMortuary.com
