Margaret Ruth Trent Givens, 92, passed away on Thursday, July 25 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Morristown. Ruth was born June 20, 1921 in Hancock County. She married her husband, Ike Givens, on August 10, 1938. Ruth worked in the beauty salon at Proffitt's in Morristown prior to opening her own shop, Crescent Center Beauty Salon. She was an active member of the Pilot Club and the Senior Citizen's Center, where she was also a board member. Ruth loved spending time with her friends at the Center playing Canasta and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Ike Givens; son, Jerry Michael Givens; parents James Edward and Kitty Trent; granddaughter Connie Givens; and five sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by her children, Terry and Janice Givens of Rutledge, Sue Givens of Morristown, Debbie and Matt Kasap of Shady Side, MD; grandchildren Todd Givens of Houston, TX, and Page Vaughn of Morristown; great-grandchildren, Abby, Ellie, Sara, and Tatum Givens of Houston, TX; David Buchanan of Bluefield, WV; and Grace Vaughn of Morristown; brother, Ray Trent of Sneedville, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Wiseman for his caring and compassionate treatment during Ruth's stay at the hospital and all of the family and friends who called and visited.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Mayes Family Services of Morristown, Downtown Chapel. Services will be at 7 p.m. with Rev. Danny Georges from First Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services will be at Hamblen Memory Gardens at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
