Lived at 68 East 29th Street NY NY. He was 67 years old.

When Hamilton died in May 1875, obituaries called him the richest black man in the United States, possessing a fortune of $2 million, or in excess of $250 million today.

He and his wife Eliza Jane Morris had nine children, the first one when she was 14 years old. Here is the list of the family members who are buried with them in Greenwood cemetery in Brooklyn:
Miranda (1835-1895), Evelina (1842-1927),Theodore 1850-1911, Josephine (1854-1926) and Walter 1854-1913, Cora (1855-1855) and Jane (1855-1857), and Camilla (1857-1862).

Adelaide (1847-1918) is not buried with them.

Eliza Jane's mother, Margaret Morris (1793-1868) and her brother George H. Morris (1820-1873) rest with them too.
