Obituary for John Hopeman
Mr. John F. Hopeman, aged 52 years prominent farmer of Montgomery County, Kansas, died at 9:30 p.m. February 20, 1924 at the family home three miles northwest of Independence, death being due to heart trouble. He is survived by his wife, Eva Berning Hopeman and six children: Ervin of Northfield, Minn.; Miss Claudia Hopeman; Dorothy Hopeman, and Lloyd, Virgil and Perlum (Victor), all of the home address.
Mr. Hopeman came to Montgomery County with his family from Harmony, Minnesota, in 1919 and has been prominent in farm circles since that time.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from the family home and at 3:00 from the First Presbyterian Church in Independence. Iterment will be in the Mausoleum at Independence.
John Frederick Hopeman was born July 19, 1871 in Carimona township. On February 16, 1898 he was married to Eva Berning. To this union eight children were born, two of whom preceded him in death: Pearl and Harold. Besides his wife and six children, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Owen (Minnie) Hughes, of Harmony, Minn.; Mrs. Henry (Annie) VanSande of Preston, Minn.; and two brothers, Joe Hopeman, of Northfield, Minn. and Albert Hopeman, of Moorhead, Minn.
He was a member of the Reformed Church of Greenleafton until 1919, when he united with the First Presbyterian Church of Independence, Kansas. His body was taken to the Greenleafton Cemetery in Minnesota after the spring thaw.
