INDIAN LAKE -- Jane C. Baldwin, 87, of East Main Street, died Monday evening, July 22, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.

Born Aug. 17, 1925, in Pocono Pines, Pa., she was the daughter of Victor and Mae (Newhart) Coombs. Jane's family moved to North Creek, N.Y., where she spent most of her childhood years.

She married Harold L. Baldwin Jr. on Nov. 30, 1946, in Indian Lake, N.Y. Jane and Harold owned and operated Adirondack Esso for many years in Indian Lake. Due to Harold's illness, they sold the station in 1979. Jane became full-time devoted caretaker for Harold until he died Nov. 20, 1985.

She was very active in the community as a member of the Parker Benton American Legion Post No. 1392 Auxiliary, the Indian Lake Ambulance Corps, the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the United Methodist Church and was instrumental in running Bingo at the Indian Lake meal site. Jane enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, gardening, reading and working puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards or having a cup of tea with good conversation.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harold Baldwin; a son, Peter Wayne Baldwin; a brother, John Combs; and a sister, Alice King.

Survivors include her two children, Hilda Gifford and her husband, Lee, of Queensbury, and George Baldwin and his wife, Linda, of Sebastian, Fla.; two sisters, Betty King of Indian Lake and Mary Farrell of Indian Lake; one brother, Harold "Skip" Coombs of South Glens Falls; five grandchildren, Gary and Wendy Baldwin of Ogdensburg, N.Y., Debbie and Robert Kleuber of Indiana, Chris and Shana Gifford of Clemmons, N.C., and Hylee Gifford and Marcus Gifford of Queensbury, N.Y.; nine great- grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, dear friends and travel buddies.

There are no public calling hours scheduled.

Graveside services will be conducted at noon Friday at Cedar River Cemetery, Indian Lake. Friends and family are invited to gather following the graveside services at Parker Benton American Legion on Main Street.
