Robert Lawrence Douglas, age 82, of Nixa, Missouri, formerly of Winona, Missouri, went to be with Jesus on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005, at home surrounded by family; he passed away due to complications from COPD and lung cancer.

Lawrence was born January 26, 1923, in Birch Tree, Mo., the son of George L, and Anna Douglas. He was married to Virgie Lindsey on January 9, 1943.

He spent most of his career in the timber industry. As an accomplished musician, Lawrence enjoyed playing a number of instruments, including the fiddle. He was never happier than when he was making music for those in nursing homes and senior centers.

Lawrence was saved and baptized in Willow Springs, Missouri on Easter Sunday, 1960. He and Virgie moved to Nixa, Mo. In 1991 where he enjoyed attending Calvary Bible Church. He will be dearly missed by family and fiends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and one daughter, Gail Garcia of Nixa.

Survivors include his wife, Virgie Douglas, son Robert Douglas and wife Kim, of Sacramento, Calif., daughter Sharon Hamilton and husband Ron, of Nixa; nine grandchildren, Maggie Kolb and husband Mike of Woodland, Calif., Bobby Douglas of Sacramento, Calif., Shelly block and husband Joel of Springfield; Samantha Higley and husband James of Nixa; Rhonda Hamilton of Nixa; Lauren, Alexandria, Erica and Daniclle Garcia of Nixa; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Brandon, Sabrina and Kimberly Burnell of Woodland, Calif. And Noah and Nathan Block of Springfield.

Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 28, at Duncan Funeral home in Winona. Memorial services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, at the funeral home. He will be buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Community Hospices of America
