Capt. Cyprian Nichols, Jr., only s. of Capt. Cyprian Nichols and his wife Mary, b. at Hartford, Conn. He d. Jan. 2, 1756 at Hartford, Æ 84, his inscribed age on his gravestone indicating he was b. after Jan. 2, 1671/2.

In the Hartford First Church records, on Feb. 23, 1695/6 Cyprian Nichols, Jr. and his three siblings (Mary, Sarah and Elizabeth with husband William Davenport) were entered as owning the baptism covenant. Less than a month later on Mar. 8, 1695/6, Helena Talcott was entered as owning the baptism covenant. Thus, on the latter date Cyprian Nichols, Jr. and Helena Talcott were yet not husband and wife. But, before 1698 at Hartford (first ch. bapt. July 10, 1698), Cyprian m. 1) Helena Talcott, the youngest dau. of Lieut. Col. John Talcott, Jr. by his first wife Helena Wakeman, b. June 17, 1674 at Hartford. She d. May 12, 1702 soon after childbirth, Æ. 28. They had three children b. at Hartford:

• i. John Nichols, bapt. July 10, 1698 (2nd Chh.); see his individual memorial.

• ii. Elizabeth Nichols, bapt. Jan. 14, 1699/700 (1st Chh.), d. Jan. 12, 1775 at Hartford; m. 1) Feb. 16, 1717/8 at Hartford, Jacob Webster, s. John Webster and Sarah Mygatt, and d. bef. June 8, 1727. Four children of the marriage. Elizabeth m. 2) after March 1727/8 as his 2nd wife, William Powell, Jr. of Wethersfield, Conn., s. William Powell and Sarah Francis, b. Oct. 29, 1691 at Wethersfield. He d. Dec. 12, 1760 at Hartford. One identified child of the marriage. William had two children by his 1st wife, Elizabeth Welles, dau. of Joseph Welles and Elizabeth Way, who d. July 4, 1725 at 27 years of age.

• iii. Lieut. Cyprian Nichols, 3rd, bapt. May 17, 1702 (2nd Chh.), d. Aug. 28, 1745 at Hartford; m. circa 1733, Agnes Humphrey, dau. Nathaniel Humphrey and Agnes Spencer, and niece of Cyprian's stepmother, b. Feb 17, 1711/2 at Hartford. Two children of the family. Agnes m. 2) Capt. Isaac Seymour, by whom she had three known children, and d. Dec. 20, 1793 at Hartford.

On May 24, 1705 at Hartford (1st Ch. Rec.), Capt. Cyprian Nichols, Jr. m. Mary Spencer, dau. of Samuel Spencer, Sr. and his wife Sarah, b. circa 1682 at Hartford. By this marriage were b. nine children at Hartford:

• iv. Samuel Nichols, bapt. Apr. 14, 1706 (1st Chh.); no further record and likely d. young.

• v. Capt. James Nichols, bapt. Feb. 2, 1708/9 (1st Chh.), d. Dec. 18, 1785 at Hartford; m. Jan. 12, 1737/8 at Hartford (1st Ch.), Mary Wadsworth, dau. of Joseph Wadsworth and Joanna Hovey, bp. Oct. 13, 1713 (Hartford 2nd Ch.) She d. July 27, 1783 at Hartford. No known children of record.

• vi. Capt. William Nichols, bapt. Oct. 21, 1711 (2nd Chh.), d. Sept. 3, 1767 of fever at sea; m. Feb. 5, 1738/9 at Hartford (1st Ch.), Mary Farnsworth, dau. of Joseph Farnsworth and Mary Olcott, bp. July 5, 1719 (Hartford 1st Ch.) She d. Oct. 14, 1771 at Hartford. Ten children of the family.

• vii. Mary Nichols, bapt. Oct. 4, 1713 (1st Chh.), d. Dec. 27, 1775 at Windsor, Conn.; m. June 26, 1740 at Hartford (1st Ch.), Capt. Moses Griswold, s. Benjamin Griswold and Elizabeth Cook, b. July 10, 1714 at Windsor, Conn. He d. Jan. 4, 1776 at Windsor. Five children of the family.

• viii. Rachel Nichols, bapt. June 10, 1716 (1st Chh.); no further record found.

• ix. Sarah Nichols, bapt. June 8, 1718 (1st Chh.), d. Jan. 5, 1801 at Windsor, Conn.; m. 1) Jan. 19, 1743/4 at Hartford (1st Ch.), Lieut. Return Strong, s. Samuel Strong and Martha Buckland, b. Feb. 26, 1712/13 at Hartford. He d. Nov. 8, 1776 at Windsor. Four children of the family. Per her deceased husband's estate probate, her own gravestone, and the Windsor Ch. record, Sarah m. 2) in Apr. 1779 at Windsor, Capt. John Marsh, 4th, the widower of Sarah's 1st cousin Sarah Webster. He d. at Litchfield, Conn. in Dec. 1780. Being in their advanced age, there were no children of this marriage.

• x. Hannah Nichols, bapt. May 8, 1720 (1st Chh.), d. Sept. 28, 1795 at Hartford; m. bef. 1748, Elisha Bigelow, s. Joseph Bigelow and Sarah Spencer, b. June 27, 1723 at Hartford. He d. June 23, 1796 at Hartford. Twelve children of bapt. record at Hartford.

• xi. Thankful Nichols, bapt. July 22, 1722 (1st Chh.), d. Aug. 25, 1780 at Hartford; m. July 7, 1747 at Wethersfield, Conn. as his 1st of three wives, Ebenezer Barnard, s. Samuel Barnard and Sarah Williamson, bapt. Jan. 9, 1725/6 at Hartford (1st Ch.) He d. Aug. 19, 1799 at Hartford. Six known children of the family.

• xii. Helena Nichols, whose bapt. does not appear in either the Hartford 1st or 2nd church records, but is named as a daughter in the distribution of her father's estate, d. Feb. 11, 1762 at Hartford; she m. 1) Dec. 12, 1736 at Hartford (1st Ch.), James McIlroy, who d. Oct. 2, 1751 (1st Ch. Rec.). She m. 2) by 1754, Thomas Long.

Capt. Cyprian Nichols, Jr. d. Jan. 2, 1756 at Hartford, Æ 84. His gravestone indicates he was b. after Jan. 2, 1671/2. His widow Mary d. at Hartford Feb. 16, 1756, Æ 75.
