Captain in 1908
In command of HMS Argyll, a fairly new Devonshire-class armoured cruiser
when it ran aground in 1915 on the Bell Rock lighthouse in Scotland
Court Martial was held and Captain Tancred was severely reprimanded
Later in command of an armed boarding steamer,
and dockyard captain.
He was made Rear-Admiral on his retirement in 1919, and a Vice-Admiral in 1925.
