From the Weekly Mississippian, Jackson, Miss., Sept. 2, 1836, p. 3:
DIED—On the 28th ult., HARRY LONG of this town, aged 43 years. Mr. Long was one of the oldest citizens of Jackson; and we may truly add, one of its most valued. In all the social relations of life, he has left few behind him, who can claim more generous qualities. He was an affectionate husband, a kind and indulgent parent, and a generous neighbor. These are far nobler than the most dazzling qualities, for they adorn the man in whatever situation he may be placed.
Few men possessed warmer or nobler feelings than the subject of this notice. In his devotion to his friends he was ardent and sincere, and will not soon be forgotten by those who enjoyed a share of his esteem. Mr. Long has left a wife and four children to mourn his untimely exit.
