Distinguished Career

Death ended the career of Solomon Kraner, one of Findlay's valued citizens Thursday morning shortly after the birth of the New Year. There are few who can boast of a life as successful as that passed by this splendid man. As a soldier, magistrate, representative, and physician, he from his early youth lived a life of great usefulness. As a soldier he won distinction being Captain of Company E of the 118th regiment OVI. He was also a surgeon. While in the service of his country Mr Kraner was wounded twice, once in the neck and another time in the back. The injuries were severe and their results handicapped him all his life in his different vocations. Upon returning from war Mr Kraner was compelled to give up the practice of medicine because of his wounds.
It was fifteen years ago (*1888)Mr Kraner moved to Findlay. He is survived by his wife, his one child having died young.
Mr Kraner was 74 years old. A few days ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis which caused his demise. It is said that the wound received in the neck was partly responsible for the attack. The bullet had entered his neck at the base and passed entirely through so that his escape from death was almost miraculous. Frank Ault and son C J Ault, of Dayton, are here to attend funeral.
The funeral took place Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from the First Lutheran church. Rev D.R. Huber will officiate. At the cemetery the remains will be given over to the old soldiers, who will conduct the final rites. Mr Kraner was a member of the Scott post, now disorganized.
