Kay Russell, A memorial service for Kay Russell, 35, of Carlisle was held Friday at Carlisle Barracks Chapel.
She died Wednesday, May 26, 1999 as a result of injuries from a traffic accident.
Born Aug. 30, 1963 in Omaha, Neb., she was a daughter of Gerald Kolbo of North Loup, Neb., and Earlynn Kolbo of Gretna, Neb.
In high school, Mrs. Russell won a gold medal in the 880-yard run at the Nebraska Girls' State Track Meet. She attended Texas A&M University on an athletic scholarship and earned a bachelor's degree in health education, with a specialty in community health, in 1985. She graduated in 1987 with a nursing degree from Cameron University in Lawton, Okla.
In 1990, Mrs. Russell volunteered for military service with the Oklahoma Air National Guard with a rank of first lieutenant. She served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1990-91, Operation Provide Com- fort in Incirlik, Turkey, in 1991 and in Somalia in 1992-93.
She was employed at Carlisle Hospital as a registered nurse in the Intermediate Intensive Care Unit.
In addition to her parents, surviving are her husband, Lt. Col. Ronald C. Russell; one daughter, Veronika; one son, Joshua; one stepdaughter, Jamie of Central Point, Ore.; two brothers, Lee Kolbo of Lincoln, Neb., and Kenneth Kolbo of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; five sisters, Irene Bomberger of Mountain Grove, Mo., Laura Fellman of Elkhorn, Neb., Carol Garrett of Tomball, Texas, Lynn Bryce of Houston, Texas, and Ann Colgrove of Papillion, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
