Frances Virginia Stewart Bauer, 95, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013 at her home in Covenant Towers.

Mrs. Bauer was born January 20, 1918 in Hoosick Falls, NY, third child of the late Florence Chase Stewart and A.T. Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lewis (Bill) Bauer; her brother, Clayton Stewart and her older sister, Muriel Hunter.

Virginia graduated from Eastman Dental School in Rochester, NY as a dental hygienist in 1937. She practiced in Yonkers, NY, Catskill, NY and at Fort Bragg, NC during World War II until her marriage to Bill Bauer in 1944.

Together, Bill and "Stew" owned and operated the Knotty Pine Motel in Lumberton, NC, the Redwood Motor Lodge in Lumberton, NC and the Jade Tree Motor Inn in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Mrs. Bauer is survived by her son, Edward (Spook) Bauer and his wife, Michele of Myrtle Beach; her daughter, Beverly Jean Marchese and her husband, Mario Marchese of El Paso, TX; two granddaughters; Lauri Anne Westmoreland and her husband, Jamey Westmoreland of Apex, NC and Leslie Bauer and her husband, Tim Lord of San Antonio, TX; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Ruby Raye Westmoreland; one sister, Janet Stewart Day of Meadville, PA and four nephews, Stephen, Christopher, Jonathan and Stewart Day.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 27, 2013 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens.
