James L. Russell, 58, of Arma, KS. died at 8:45 p.m. Thursday, June 8th, 1995 at St. John's Regional Medical Center at Joplin, MO. He was born May 3, 1937 at Dallas Center, Iowa to Charles E. and Nora L. Shipley Russell. He married Lucille Richards in Indio, CA. Mr. Russell who had served with the U.S. Marines, was an assistant superintendent for Alternate Fuels. He worked for Utermoehlen Trucking and Alternate Fuels for 26 years. He lived in California and Mulberry prior to moving to Arma in 1972. Membership was held in the Arma United Methodist Church, the Lon Helm Post No. 182 American Legion at Arma and the Rollin Nostalgia Car Club at Pittsburg, for which he was past commander. Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Donna Nunez of Elgin, TX., Teresa Russell-Zapata of Buda, TX., and Amy Russell of the home; three sons, Jim Lee Russell of Joplin, MO., Jay Russell of Canoga Park, CA., and Joby Russell of the home; four sisters, Lucille Bruetch of Henderson, NV., Betty Miles of Cummings, GA., Virginia Chatman of Astor, FL., and Wanda Wilson of Weatherford, TX.; one brother, Butch Freeman of Springfield, MO.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Gibson, and a brother, Junior Russell. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma with the Rev. Chris Conklin officiating. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Fort Scott. The Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home, where friends may call after 10 a.m. The Lon HElm Post No. 182 American Legion at Arma will conduct flag-folding graveside services.
