Member of the (Whig) State Assembly Session 6, 10th District 1855-1856. Noted to be the first tombstone in this cemetery. Age 41, cause of death, congestion of the lungs, funeral held May 10, 1860, from his residence. Sexton record 442.

On the 1st of January Capt. J. H. Updegraff opened his hotel under festive auspices, with a grand New Year's party, with tickets $10, a steamer being run from Sacramento for the accommodation of guests. The establishment was called the "Yolo House".
