Olympic Gold Medal Swimming Champion, International Swimming Hall of Fame. She competed, at age fifteen, in the 1964 Olympic games in Tokyo, where she won three gold medals and a silver medal. She won the 100 meter butterfly and swam one of the legs in both women's winning relay teams. She earned a silver medal in the 100 meter freestyle, finishing narrowly behind the winner. Was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1972. In 1964 she twice broke the world record in women's 200 meter butterfly. Was a world record holder in three events. She had the honor of lighting the torch to start off the soccer portion of the 1984 Olympics at Stanford University Stadium in Palo Alto, California. She was inducted into the Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997, along with re-known football coach, Bill Walsh and famed quarterback, John McEnroe. Graduated from Stanford University in 1970, then attended UC Santa Barbara, and earned her teaching credential. After completing her studies, she traveled around the world briefly living in New Zealand. She is survived by her daughter, Kerry Clark, son James Clark and sister, Barbara Lockhart.
