He married Ellen Grace Moorman, daughter of John Clark Moorman and Catherine Leftwich, on 20 Jan 1863. He was promoted to Full Major on 15 April 1864 (As of 2nd Corps). He was wounded on 08 May 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, VA. He ended military service on 9 Apr 1865 at Appomattox Court House, Surrendered Lynchburg Light Artillery Regiment Virginia, Unit # 572.
