Our beloved son, brother, father, papa, great papa, and great-great papa, passed away in Grand Junction, on July 18, 2013.
He was born on June 3, 1927, in Grand Junction, CO., to John and Florence Hiatt. He spent his childhood in Grand Junction, graduating from Grand Junction High School.
Don married Bernita Brophy, on March 7, 1947. They were married for 63 years, before Bernita's death in 2010. The couple lived in Pico Rivera and Vialia, California.
Don retired from Pacific Telphone Co., after 33 years of service. He founded Pico Rivera Youth Football Organization, and Pico Boys Baseball Organization, both in California.
He was a member of the U.S. Navy, Seaman First Class, and participated in WWII.
He was an artist, specializing in wood carving, but didn't limit himself. He also enjoyed drawing, and painting. Don was also a well respected, football and baseball coach.
He is survived by his children: Dan (Tina) Hiatt, of Redmond, OR., Rod Hiatt, of Pico Rivera, CA., John (Terri) Hiatt, of Fresno, CA., Tom (Sheila) Hiatt of Visalia, CA., and Donna Hiatt of Grand Junction, CO.; brothers: Roy Hiatt, of Grand Junction, CO., and Ken Hiatt, of Broomfield, CO.; brother-in-law, Jack (Leona) Brophy, of Grand Junction; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernita; and son, Donny.
A graveside service with military honors will take place on Friday, July 26th, at 3:00 p.m., at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. A celebration of his life will follow at Sherwood Park.
