Daughter of Gottlieb and Karolina Louisa (Rathnow) Schmidt, and married Willaim Ripka on Oct. 14, 1886 in Kewanee, Illinois.

Mrs. William Ripka

Mrs. William Ripka, a resident of this community for nearly 60 years, died at her home two and a half miles north of Kewanee at 6 o'clock this morning. She was taken ill at 3 o'clock and passed away three hours later.

Louise Caroline Schmidt was born in Brandenburg, Germany, August 7, 1863, and at the time of her death was 62 years, 5 months and 16 days old. She came to this country and to this community with her parents when she was but four years old and, thus, she had lived here for 58 years, during which time she made many friends who regret her passing.

Her marriage to William Ripka, who survives, took place at her home October 14, 1887, and eight children were born to the union, all of whom survive. They are: Reinhardt C., William L., Albert F., Edward, Arthur and Lawrence Ripka, all of Kewanee; Carl W. and Herbert Ripka, both of Lamar, Colo. There are 11 grandchildren. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Rudolph Schmidt, Toulon; Mrs. Carl Keiser, Neponset; Mrs. John Ouart, Mrs. Louis Ouart, Mrs. Albert Kempin, Gustave Schmidt and Albert Schmidt, all of Kewanee; Herman Schmidt, Wausaukee, Wis. A brother, William Schmidt, died two years ago [sic, 1922].

Mrs. Ripka was a good Christian woman, and early in life she was confirmed in the Brandenburg church. The funeral services will be held at the residence at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon and at 2:00 o'clock at St. Peter's Evangelical church. The Rev. G. D. Fleer, pastor of St. Peter's Evangelical church, will be in charge and burial will be in the family lot in Pleasant View cemetery.
