California County Marriages 1850-1952, pg 52
Francis M. Shelton, male, age 41 (b. abt 1846)
Jessie O. Bland, female, age 18 (b. abt 1869)
m. 2 Nov 1887 in Shasta [county], California
Jessie passed away in 1904 at the young age of 35 leaving her husband & children, the two youngest only ages 5 & 2.
Thanks to volunteer Frank Kistner for the following on June 30, 2014:
"There are five (5) very weathered headboard markers still in the cemetery. It is difficult to make out writing on any of them, but some moreso than others. One of the most difficult is in the very northwestern corner of the cemetery. As the late morning sunlight angle changed, I believe that I could make out the words "Sister" and "Jesse" on that old board. ... Of possible significance is the fact that the marker is next to that of Francis Shelton (dod: 1935)."
"The property on which the cemetery is located was conveyed in 1892 to William L Bland, Jr from the USA by patent. A couple of months later Wm. sold it to Frank Shelton who passed it down to his son Andrew. Andrew conveyed it by Quit Claim Deed to Maude V (Noble) Coleman in 1954".
The above information leads us to believe that William L. Bland may have been the brother of Jessie Olive Bland Shelton, especially since the marker may have the word "sister" on it.
Other family trees show her parents as William Lee Bland & Julietta (Barney) Bland and her brother as William Lee Bland Jr., -Boundersal 7/4/2014
Any further information about the Bland family will be greatly appreciated.
