Glenn Alva West, 92, of Floyd, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013. He was born on January 30, 1921, to the late Willie and Ellen West. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Wilma Beyer; a great- granddaughter; and a great- great-granddaughter. A Navy veteran, he served on a destroyer in the Pacific Theater during World War II. In the past, he worked at Harris Hardwood, Fred Whitaker, and retired as a machine operator from Hollingsworth and Vose. He was a member of Harvestwood Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth West; two stepdaughters and their families; three sons, Glenn West Jr., Bobbie West (Peggy Joyce), Kenneth West (Ann); one daughter, Ruby Tate; five grandchildren, Roger, Kevin, Tammy, Dana, and Christopher; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Theo van Blerk officiating. Interment will follow at the Radford Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by Floyd VFW Post # 7854 and Floyd American Legion Post # 127. The family will receive friends at Gardner Funeral Home on Wednesday July 24, 2013, one hour prior to the funeral service. Arrangements by Gardner Funeral Home,Floyd.
