AUSTIN -- Opal M. Stanton, 95, of New Hampton, Iowa, formerly of the Austin and Lyle areas, died Friday (July 15, 2005) at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.
Opal Mae Heiny was born Nov. 24, 1909, at Rock Falls, Iowa, and moved with her family to Medina, N.D., where she graduated from high school in 1929. Her family then moved to the Austin area. On Dec. 4, 1933, she married Wayne Stanton in Austin, and they lived in the Austin and Lyle areas. In 1959, they moved to the New Hampton area and, in 1964, bought the farm where they had lived since then. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in church activities, and the Las Amigas Club; and she enjoyed cooking and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Eleanor (Kenneth) Hollerud of Austin and Dorothy Beyer of New Hampton; one son, Duane (Marilyn) of New Hampton; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Sid (Eileen) Heiny of Austin.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, three sisters and three brothers.
The funeral was July 17 at First Baptist Church in New Hampton. Burial was in New Hampton Cemetery. Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home of New Hampton was in charge of arrangements.
