Lawrence was born Lorenz Robert Nowotny. He married Alice M. Doonnelly and they resided on Tholozan Ave. St. Louis until Lawrence death in a V.A. Hospital in Illinois. Alice then moved to Wisconsin to be near her daughter June (Nowotny) Schlagenhof and her family. Alice passed in a Nursing home in Waukesha, WI.
