Jacob Welch (Jake) Cameron
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Jacob Welch
(Jake) Cameron died September 30,
1999. He was born April 17, 1913, in
Homer, LA, the youngest of eight chil-
dren of Milton Perry and Lou Ada
Nelson Cameron. He graduated from
Homer High School, and received a
Bacheiors degree from Louisiana
College in Pineville, LA in 1938. On
December 24, 1939 he married Iva
Lynn Eatman of Bossier City. He taught
school and coached both in Claiborne
and Bossier Parishes before serving in
the Coast Guard during World War II.
Following military service, Jake
Cameron served the citizens of Bossier
Parish as Chief Deputy Tax Assessor
before being elected Mayor of Bossier
City in 1957. He later served several
terms on the Bossier Parish School
Board. As a civic minded businessman
and public servant, he was an enthusi-
astic advocate for Northwest Louisiana.
Jake Cameron was a member of the
First Baptist Church of Bossier City,
where he served as both Deacon and
teacher.
Jake Cameron is survived by his wife
of almost 60 years, Iva Lynn Eatman
Cameron, and many nieces and
nephews.
Services will be at Rose-Neath
Funeral Home in Bossier City, at 11:30
a.m., Saturday, October 2, 1999.
Officiating will be Rev. Ray Rainey.
interment will follow at Forest Park East
in Shreveport.
