Sheila Harcum Owens, daughter of the late Hortense Miles Moody and Theodore Harcum, Sr., was born in Lancaster, Virginia on September 27, 1951.

She was educated in the Lancaster County Public Schools and employed at the Lancashire Convalescence and Rehabilitation Center until her health began to decline. On June 18th, 2005, Shelia married Raymond Scott Owens; her love of 30+ years.

Sheila was a kind, sweet, loving, and caring person who had a heart as big as a pot of gold. She loved attending events and functions and just fellowshipping with people in general. She enjoyed little things such as talking on the phone (24/7), hanging up on people to answer the beeps…eating…shopping…laughing and joking …listening to her gospel CDs and watching The Word Network. Sheila was a faithful member of the Church of Deliverance. She loved her pastor and her church family. Sheila was thought of by her children and grandchildren as a priceless mother and grandmother, who did everything she could do for her children and grandchildren—a jewel that will be forever missed and adored by all that knew her.

On Monday, July 15, 2013, God dispersed His Angel who whispered in a soft, sweet voice, my daughter, your job down here is done. Your pain and suffering has ceased. You may now give up the fight, for I have come to take you home. She joined her brother, Joseph Harcum, Sr.; sister, Janice Harcum and nephew, Terell Bromley.

Sheila leaves to cherish her precious memory: her loving husband, Raymond S. Owens of Lancaster, Virginia; her children: Annette Mitchell (Kelvin, Sr.), Barbara Croxton (William) of Lancaster, Virginia, Joyce Wise (Sherman Sr.) of Gloucester, Virginia, Latricia Hudnall (Donte), and Raymond Owens, Jr. (Renee) all of Lancaster; grandchildren: Kelvin Butler, Antonio Carter, Joy Carter, Antwon Butler, Terrance Taylor, Jr., Tiara Scott, Sherman Wise, Jr., Keisha Mitchell, QueenAsia Croxton, Dajah Hudnall, Deonte Hudnall, and Dayjon Dean; great grandchildren: Destiny Carter, A' Lyric Taylor, Khloe Skyy Carter and Jaden Alexander Wise; sisters: Hortense (Therisita) Waller of Lancaster (the two of them were inseparable); and Roxanna Brown, of New York City; brother, Theodore Harcum, Jr. of Newport News, Virginia nieces: Stacy Waller, Christina Harcum, Kendra Harcum, Tomeko Fauntleroy, Jessica Harcum, Nequava Brown, Nicole Brown, and Melissa Howard; nephews: Freddie Howard, Shawn Booker, Joseph Harcum, Jr., and Nazir Harcum, a special pet: Oreo Owens; special friends: Brenda Moody, Bea Moody, Donna Owens, Laura Waller, Sharon White, Maxine Jackson, and Gail Carter; a host of other relatives and friends.

Interment services were held at the church cemetery where her pall and floral bearers were friends of the family.

Services of Comfort and Trust provided by the Berry O. Waddy Funeral Home, Berry O. Waddy, Manager.
