DIED.
MINNICK.--On Saturday morning at 4
o'clock, at his residence in this city,
Mr. Isaac Minnick, aged 71 yrs. 8
months and 12 days.
- Mr. Minnick was born in Cohn* Co.
Virginia, January 11th, 1811, where
he lived until he arrived at manhood's
estate, and where he married. Shortly
after his marriage, he went to Illinois
and from there to Wisconsin. After
a few years residence in the north, he
took up his journey south and located
in Doniphan County, Kas., where he
resided about a year, where he came
to this city, reaching here late in the
fall of 1859. He purchased the hotel
now owned by Mr. Parchen, and con-
ducted it for 10 years, when he pur-
chased a farm a short distance from
town, and leaving the hotel, he took
upon himself the occupation of farm-
ing. As will be seen, Mr. Minnick
was one of the early pioneers of this
county. He has many friends who
regret his departure for the great un-
known. He was universally respected
by his neighbors, and all who came in
contact with him. He was generous
to a fault and during his private life,
he demonstrated, on more than one
occasion, the old adage of "doing un-
to others, etc." In his death the
community loses a valuable citizen,
and the family a kind husband and an
indulgent father. Thus it is the old
settlers are fast passing away, while
the generation that takes their places
and the thousands that are constantly
coming in can scarcely realize the
hardships and privations endured by
the heroes who have done so much to
make this country bud and blossom as
the rose. The funeral services were
conducted by Rev. Gallagher, of the
M. E. Church, after which a large
concourse followed the remains to
their last resting place in Steele's
cemetery. The wife of this gentle-
man, seven sons and two daughters,
are left to mourn the loss of husband
and father.

Died.
At Falls City, Saturday, September 23rd
1882, at 4 o'clock a.m., Isaac Minnick,
aged 71 years, 8 months, and 12 days.
- Another one of the pioneers of Rich-
ardson County has gone to his final rest,
one of those heroic souls who endured
the dangers and privations of frontier
life in order to lay the foundation of a
new and mighty State.
Mr. Minnick was born in old Virginia,
a State that has given birth to so many
of our best and greatest men. After
living for many years in Illinois, Wis-
consin and Doniphan County, Kansas,
he settled in Falls City 22 years ago,
when our now beautiful and flourishing
city was only a mere hamlet on the
barren prairie. For many years he
kept the "City Hotel" on what is now
known as Parchen's corner. He after-
wards lived on the farm just north of
town, now owned by Alf. Stump. Find-
ing the infirmities of old age coming
upon him, he sold his farm and removed
to town where he resided till his death.
Few men in the county were more
widely known than Isaac Minnick, and
everywhere he bore the reputation of
a good citizen, neighbor, husband and
father, and over and beyond all on hon-
est man. He took with him to the
grave the love and esteem of the whole
country. He leaves 7 sons and 4 daugh-
ters to mourn his loss. Three sons
live in Falls City, and the other chil-
dren are scattered all over the United
States. He leaves behind him consid-
erable property, and a good name that
is better than gold or silver, or costly
gems. The funeral was at the Metho-
dist church on Sunday last and was at-
tended by a large concourse of people
who thus testified their respect for the
deceased, and their sympathy for the
family.
