COL. MEREDITH E. "TUT" HENDRICKS
Jan. 21, 1924 - March 18, 2014

Mr. Hendricks, 90, La Plata, MD., died at home on Lucknow Farm. He was born and raised in Stockton, In 1941, upon graduation from high school, he attended Southwest Missouri State. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a signalman in 1942, and served in London during The Blitz as a rooftop watcher during World War II. He returned stateside to enter the United States Military Academy, joining the class of 1949. In 1949, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant, and married Shirley Anne Hoff June 18. He served two overseas tours of Italy and solo tours in Korea and Vietnam, serving his country as a three-war veteran. He graduated from the Army's Command and General Staff College and the Italian Army War College, and was awarded the order of merit, Knight of the Italian Republic.

In 1970, they bought Lucknow, a tobacco farm in La Plata, MD. and in 1973, he officially retired from his 30-year career in the U.S. Army. In 1989, they retired from farming.

Survivors include his children, Karen Hendricks of Kansas City, Mary Miller and husband Archy, Guy "Patch" Hendricks and wife Theresa and Jean "Didi" Huber and husband Charles , all of La Plata, Md.; brothers, Jimmie Hendricks of San Diego, Calif., and Franklin Johnson; sisters, Lana Bough Carter, Carolyn Wright, and Roxie Pritchett all of Missouri; grandchildren, Anne Hendricks, Jessie Hendricks, Ricky, Katie, and Julie Huber, Kim Cuellar and husband Phil and Keith and Holly Sanderson; great-grandchildren, Kai Hendricks, Jared and Sierra Sanderson and Gabrielle, Allison and Dane Cuellar.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Anna Hoff Hendricks; parents, Charles E. "Spiz" Hendricks and Myrtle Bell Johnson; sisters, Sally Hendricks Whittle and Polyanna Johnson; and a brother-in-law, Phil Hoff.

Visitation was 4-6 p.m. Saturday, March 22, with service following at 5:30 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Ave., La Plata, Md. Additional visitation is 6-7 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Brumback Funeral Home, with service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Stockton Presbyterian Church. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hendricks will be buried in Stockton Cemetery.
