Alfred Lee Wilkins, 78, of Shelburn, Indiana passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at his home in Shelburn.

He was born on June 3, 1935, in Hymera, Indiana, the son of Clifford Wilkins and Ernestine May Wilkins. He was an Army veteran and retired from the steel mill in East Chicago. Alfred was Commander of the Hymera American Legion Post #298 and former Commander of the Lyons American Legion Post #479.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Debra Wilkins.

Survivors include his wife Gracie Wilkins, four sons, Alfred Wilkins Jr., Michael Wilkins, Rick Harrington, and Terry Wilkins, four daughters, Tina Mills, Kim Wilkins, Sharon Wilkins, and Cheryl Wilkins, an aunt, Roxanna Laffoon, several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Friday, July 26, 2013 at Newkirk's Funeral Home with Sharon Russell officiating. Interment will follow in K of P Cemetery located in Hymera, Indiana, with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn, and Hymera Legion Posts and the Sullivan VFW Post. Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Newkirk's.
