Born in Bangor, daughter of the late Harry and Dorothy Couch Matthews, Ann graduated from Belvidere High School in New Jersey, Wilfred Academy and attended Centenary Junior College. She worked at the Abington Heights High School for 24 years, where she served as secretary to the principal.
While working for the school district she served as president of the Support Union for three years as well as an advisor to the cheerleaders for three years. Ann had a very strong religious faith and was a member of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church.
She loved football, especially watching her grandchildren play. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. Ann was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. Ann’s kindness, generosity, and sense of humor and distinct laugh endeared her to many who spent time with her.
Surviving are her three children, Scott Stevens and wife, DonaGale, Lake Ariel; Susan Lawrence and husband, Charles, Novato, Calif.; and Chad Stevens and wife, Kay, Clarks Summit; and four grandsons, Matthew Lawrence, Eric Matylewicz, Daniel Stevens and William Stevens. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Stevens, who died Dec. 8, 1994.
A memorial service will be Friday at 11am at the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, 1310 Morgan Highway, Clarks Summit. The family will receive friends from 10 until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly.
