EUNICE KATHERINE "KATHY" WOODS
September 11, 1951 - July 9, 2013
Kathy Woods passed peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday July 9, 2013 in Portland, Oregon. She had fought a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was 61. Kathy was born in Corvallis, Oregon on September 11, 1951 to George and Wilda Birchell. They lived in Pedee where she attended grade school. One of her teachers asked her what she wanted to do when she grew up and her answer was "to take care of her grandmother and her family". The family moved to Dallas when she entered junior high and she graduated from Dallas High School in 1969 with honors. During her sophomore year she started dating Ken Woods, a senior. They married in Dallas on June 26, 1971. Kathy and Ken lived in Medford, Portland, Beaverton, and Tualatin before moving back to Dallas in 1981. They produced two boys, Jonathan and Michael. Kathy started in the banking business as a teller when they lived in Medford and continued in the banking business as they moved. In Dallas, Kathy worked for Bank of Willamette Valley which is now Wells Fargo. In 2000 Kathy joined Ken in his insurance agency where she was a licensed insurance agent. Mimi (Kathy) enjoyed her two grandchildren Ava and Bryson. They were the love of her life. Just before she left, she had the opportunity to touch and hold her third grandchild Morgan Katherine Woods who was born on July 6, 2013. Kathy was the glue that held our family together. She was our hero.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 42 years Ken Woods Jr., son Jon Woods (Misty), son Michael Woods (Melanie), parents George & Wilda Birchell, brother Olin Birchell (Vicki) and brother Brian Birchell (Sandy), grandchildren Ava Woods, Bryson Woods and Morgan Katherine Woods, niece Kelli Birchell, nephews Blake Birchell and Tyler Birchell, and many aunts and cousins.
Services will be on Saturday July 13th, 12 noon, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dallas. Graveside services will be private.
