Musician. He was born Michael Thomas McCarthy in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. He began his professional music career in 1962 with a band called The Fretmen. But he triumphed with the group Timebox, that later changed their name to Patto in 1970 and began playing a heavier mix of rock and jazz styles, with albums such as "Hold Your Fire" and "Roll 'Em Smoke 'Em, Put Another Line Out". In 1973 Mike got involved with a jam band called Dick And The Firemen. And this same year, he accepted an offer to join Spooky Tooth. In 1975, Ollie Halsall and Tony Newman and him formed a new rock band, with the name "Boxer." They recorded the "Below the Belt" album and began doing live shows. They recorded a second album in 1976 called "Bloodletting" and this year, he left the group. He suffered from cancer, and died in 1979.
