Hope Shirley Vick Thompson Pederson of Watertown passed away on July 5th 2013 at Prairie Lakes Hospital, one day after her 94th birthday: our 4th of July firecracker.

Memorial services will be held July 27th at 10:30 Am, Saturday, at the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ with Rev Steven Bailey officiating.

Interment will be at Mt Hope Cemetery after services.

Hope Pederson was born July 4th 1919 to George and Grace (Somers) Vick in Lake Benton, Minnesota. She grew up in the Lake Benton area where she graduated from Lake Benton High School as co valedictorian with her sister Joyce. She graduated from Minneapolis Business College in 1940 after completing a course in Private Secretarial.

On April 12, 1941 Hope married the love of her life, Quenten (X) Thompson. They lived in Marshall, MN until moving to Watertown, S D. He preceded her in death in 1977.

In 1983, Hope married Roger Pederson and was happily married until his death in 2008.

Hope began her career at Stenzel Motor after moving to Watertown. She then worked at DeVine Motor, General Service Bureau, and ended up working at the Codington County Auditor's Office for several years before retiring. She then helped Roger with his in home rental business until Roger also retired.

Hope enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed dancing and reading as well as playing bridge, and sewing. She had great style in fashion and home décor. She was also a great cook, baker and canner. She prided herself on being a stubborn Norwegian and had a great sense of humor, liked to tease, and loved to laugh. Hope was an active member at the First Congregational Church UCC since moving to Watertown, and was active in the women's guild in the church. She was also active in Credit Club.

Hope is survived by her 4 daughters, Judy (Dale) Bryson, Naperville IL, Jill Ekstrom, Anchorage AK, Janis (Mike) Hendricks, Fenton, MI, and Mindy Horner, Watertown, SD, two half brothers Terry (Deb) Vick, Madison, MN, George (Sharon) Vick, Dawson, MN, and 1 half sister Beth (Bill) Blank, Lutsen, MN. and 6 step children.
She is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and loving nieces and nephews.

Hope was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 2 husbands and 1 grandchild (Suewanna Hope Ekstrom).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church UCC 121 1st Ave SE Watertown, SD 57201.
