Obituary - John H. Burkett, 81, a native of Elkhart county, died at his home, 1118 S. Main street, at 11:45 o'clock this morning, of heart trouble. He had been in failing health for some time, but was able to be about this morning before he was stricken.
Mr. Burkett was born in this county on May 15, 1852, a son of Abraham and Mary Burkett. He is survived by his second wife, Isabel, three sons, William H., LeRoy, and Charles Burkett, all of Goshen, a daughter, Mrs. Ida Gresso, of Goshen, and eight grandchildren. Mr. Burkett was first married in 1873 to Mary Kleckner, who died in 1910. Mr. Burkett was a member of the First M. E. church and was active in the Masonic lodge.
Mrs. Burkett is visiting in Hutchinson, Kansas and has been notified of her husband's death. She will return here tomorrow evening, and funeral arrangements will not be made until then. The body has been removed to the Stiver funeral home.
