Linda Jean (Alverson) Irvin, of Columbia passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2013. She was born on January 13, 1940 in Springfield, MO to John and Mildred Alverson.

She graduated from Maplewood High School and later received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Linda taught for 25 years at West Junior High School. In 1996, she was selected Missouri Gifted Teacher of the Year. Upon retirement, she became the Executive Secretary for the Gifted Association of Missouri.

She is survived by her husband, Jim, and her three children, John, Kathy Becker, and David. She also is survived her son-in-law, Terry and three grandsons, Kyle, Justin and Paul Becker.

A Memorial Service followed by a reception for all friends and family will be held Thursday, July 11th at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Columbia, 1112 E. Broadway.
