Information paraphrased from the Luzerne Legal Register Vol XII, Gerge Kulp ed. 1883:

Andrew Hoagland, son of Amos Hoagland, was a man well known for his upright dealings in Hunterdon Count and one of the first to manumit his slaves. In 1840 was appointed Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. His wife, Mary, was the only daughter of Revolutionary war hero, Elijah Carman.

Note: Also, Held title "Overseer of the Poor".

Elijah and wife Jane James Carman are buried in nearby Carman Cemetery.
