Donald R. Thompson, 78, of 432 Miami St., Tiffin, died at 4:40 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005, in Ruffing Family Care Center in Tiffin.

He was Born June 23, 1927, in Findlay, to the late Charles Marion Thompson and Lavina (Ellinwood) Thomas. On Feb. 14, 1948, in Newport, Ky., he married Pauline (Malone) Thompson who survives.

Donald is also survived by five sons, Don (Mary Jane) Thompson of Tiffin, Dave (Carla) Thompson of Tiffin, Gene (Cheryl) Thompson of Tiffin, Jeff (Lori) Thompson of Tiffin; and Steve (Ginger) Thompson of Selah, Wash.; two daughters, Jane Thompson of Tiffin and Rebecca Caudill of Tiffin; 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was also predeceased by a brother, Gene Thompson and a sister, Evelyn Perkins.

A 1945 graduate of Columbian High School, he also attended Findlay College. In 1989 Mr. Thompson retired as foreman from American Standard after working for 41 years. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Masonic Temple, VFW Post 2858 in Tiffin, Moose Lodge, and Eagles Aerie 402. He also belonged to the 49th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Civil War Reenactment Group. Mr. Thompson enjoyed playing golf, bowling, camping and traveling throughout the United States and Canada and was an avid photographer. He loved fishing and boating on Lake Erie. Mr. Thompson was active in the Boy Scouts of America as a cub scout and boy scout leader. He was respected by his co-workers and his supervisors as a fair and innovative person. Throughout his life, Don was a devoted family man.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2005, in Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, OH 44883. (419) 447-3113. The Rev. Scott Howard will be officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Tiffin where the United Veteran's Council of Seneca County will perform military rites.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2005 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, or to a charity of the Donor's choice in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
