Born January 3, 1925, in Monks Corner, he was a son of the late Rev. James W. Jones, Sr., and the late Emmie Marvin Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of Sumter First Church of the Nazarene. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He retired from The Sumter Dailey Item. After retirement he went to work part time for the Sumter YMCA and remained employed with them until his early 90's.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Rev. Marvin Jones, James W. "Bill" Jones, Jr., and Rev. Joe Jones.
