Marcia Neuberger Garrett, 80, of Austin, died Thursday, July 18, 2013. Marcia was born August 6, 1932 to John M. and Pearl Ax Neuberger in Mason City, Iowa.

Marcia attended school in a one room school house near Ventura, Iowa. In 1943 she and her family moved to Brownsville, Texas where she attended El Jardin High School. She graduated as valedictorian in 1950. She continued her lifelong love of learning at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX and graduated in 1954 with a degree in Elementary Education. Marcia earned her Master's Degree in 1984.

She began teaching in Corpus Christi, retiring from AISD after 33 years of inspiring young minds. Marcia was a faithful and active member of Memorial United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma.

She was a passionate reader and avid collector of literature. She was a member of book groups, Bible studies and bridge clubs. Marcia loved to travel, loved spending time with her friends, and her work with her church. But her proudest accomplishment was being a mom.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, John M. and Pearl Ax Neuberger.

She is survived by her brother, Dr. John W. Neuberger and wife Barbara of Denton, TX; daughters, Debbie and Dean Stromer of Klemme, IA, Beth and Mike Brymer of Cedar Park, TX, and Laura and Mark Webb of Bastrop, TX; her grandchildren, Daniel and Mindy Stromer, Jessica and Mark Irvin, William and Mandy Stromer, David and Amanda Hopper Brymer, Chris and Danielle Hall Brymer, Brian and Meagan Webb, Stephanie and Mark Manning, Joshua and Desiree Webb and eleven precious great grandchildren.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o'clock until six o'clock in the evening, on Sunday, the 21st of July 2013, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas A funeral service will be conducted at Memorial United Methodist Church, 6100 Berkman Drive, Austin, Texas. Interment will be in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme, Iowa at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, memorials may be sent to the Wesleyan Foundation of Memorial United Methodist Church, 6100 Berkman Drive, Austin, Texas 78723.
