Sr. Alice Marie Leahy was born on February 17, 1924, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of George John Leahy and Edna Anna Litzrodt Leahy.


She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary on September 8, 1943, the feast of the Nativity of Mary, and pronounced her vows on July 17, 1946. There was great joy in the Novitiate when her brother, Edward James Leahy, was ordained a priest.

Sister was described as a quiet, shy, unassuming person, who could voice her opinion on things she felt strongly about. She spent long hours preparing her classes.


Sr. Alice Marie Leahy, CHM, died suddenly at age 57 at Mercy Hospital in Davenport, Iowa, following a stroke. She is survived by her mother, Edna Anna Leahy; her sisters, Sister Ann Louise Leahy, CHM, Bettendorf, Iowa; and Maryetta Masterson, Davenport, Iowa; her brothers, George John Leahy, Jr., Davenport, Iowa; and Fr. Edward James Leahy, Davenport. She was predeceased by her father.


A Christian Wake Service was held at Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home in Davenport, Iowa, on January 18, 1982. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Davenport, on January 19. The main celebrant was her brother, Fr. Edward James Leahy. The homilist was Fr. Francis Henricksen. Seventeen priests concelebrated. Her 4th grade students participated in the liturgy. At the Offertory Procession, they brought up mementos of her teaching career at Holy Trinity.
