DR. G.C. OBER DEAD; PROMINENT MASON
District Grand Lodge and Grand Commandery to Officiate at Funeral

Dr. George C. Ober, for many years a prominent physician of Capitol Hill and a past grand master of Masons of the District of Columbia, died at Providence Hospital this morning at 6 o'clock, following an attack of erysipelas early in January. The funeral will be held at the residence, 135 B street southeast, at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. The Grand Lodge of Masons and the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar will officiate. Interment will be in Congressional cemetery.

Dr. Ober was born in Washington, April 17, 1860, and was educated by private tutors, graduating from the Emerson Institute in 1878. The following year he began the study of medicine at the medical college of Georgetown University, and was graduated with the highest honors of his class in 1882. He served a year as resident physician at the Children's Hospital. In 1883, after which he began the private practice of his profession.

Professional Positions
From 1891 to 1903 he was professor of materia medica and therapeutics in the medical department of the National University and upon the passage of the medical practice act by Congress in 1896, he was appointed by the District Commissioners a member of the board of medical examiners, serving as secretary to the board for nine years and afterward as its president. He is an ex-president of the board of medical supervisors for the District, having served for four years or more as its secretary. He also served as secretary and as first vice president of the Medical Association of the District, as chairman of the judicial council of the American Therapeutical Society and was for many years a member and also president of the board of counselors of the Medical Association of the District.

Masonic Honors
He has been grand master of the Grand Lodge, F.A.A.M., grand high priest of the grand chapter of Royal Arch Masons and grand commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the District, holding the last two offices at the same time during 1910.

He was made a Master Mason in Naval Lodge, No. 4, of this city, in 1889; a Royal Arch Mason in Washington Naval Chapter, No. 7, in 1890, and was knighted in Washington Commandery, Knights Templare, in September, 1891; affiliating, as a charter member, with Orient Commandery, No. 5, and being its first captain general, in October, 1895. He was master of his lodge in 1899, high priest of his chapter in 1894, and commander of Orient Commandery in 1898. He was also a past president of the Convention of Annointed High Priests, a member of Adoniram Council, Royal and Select Masters, and of the Masonic Veteran Association, as well as of Almas Temple, Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine.

He is survived by a son, Lieut. George C. Ober, jr.; a brother, John R. Ober, and three sisters, Misses Eleanor R., Clara V., and Frances A. Ober.
