He was born July 25, 1913, in Wakefield, to John and Blanche Arnold Bergmeier. He spent his early life in the Wakefield community and attended rural schools in Clay County. He moved to Longford in 1936 and later served as mayor of Longford. He was a farmer and stockman for many years.
He was a member of Wakefield Lodge No. 396, AF&AM, in Wakefield and Oak Hill Lodge No. 334, AF&AM, in Oak Hill. He was a member of the American Hereford Association and Longford Rodeo Club. He had served on the board of Clay County Hospital in Clay Center.
He married Barbara Gatchell on June 1, 1938, in Alida. She died Jan. 27, 1987. A son, Fritz Bergmeier, also died.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie Bentz, Concordia; brothers, Calvin Bergmeier, Manhattan, Clemon "Pat" Bergmeier, Hutchinson, and Dean Bergmeier, Pocatello, Idaho; sisters, Opal Koerner, Wakefield, Adelia Hamme, Abilene, and Betty Lundin, Manhattan; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
